WHAT IS SOMA

What is Soma?

“Soma” is the mystic nectar of the ancient Vedic Rishis of India and the inner Shakti (power) of rejuvenation, immortality and bliss, which is the supreme creative force. Soma is necessary in Yoga to facilitate the proper movement of the body, the control of the mind, inner spiritual strength, for the awakening of Kundalini and the opening of the chakras. “Soma” is a Sanskrit term that comes from the root “Su” which means to energise, stimulate, expand and grow. “Soma” also refers to the state of “Ananda” meaning “Bliss” which can be achieved through both Yoga and Ayurveda. This is the ultimate goal of Yoga and Ayurveda.

Yoga and Ayurveda are “Spiritual Practices” that help us to be the best person that we can be and to live our lives in the best way we can. We can achieve a more important and balanced approach to life and to the health of both mind and body which in turn will show us and take us along “our spiritual path” in life. Soma is also regarded as the  feeling of wellbeing that you get from practicing Yoga and from gaining good mental and physical health and by introducing  Ayurveda in to your life.We can learn how to achieve the “blissful state” of mind and body which is regarded as the “Highest form of Yoga”.

When you practice and implement Yoga or Ayurveda or preferably both in to your daily life they becomes part of your life. As time goes on the benefits that you receive just continue to become more and more and you enjoy the fruits of your efforts that shine true in your mental, physical and spiritual health. Without all three we cannot truly say that we have good health. “Soma” in Yoga and Ayurveda brings together great rejuvenation of the body, revitalises and strengthens the mind ands awakens the spiritual energy and power that lies within us all, each and every human being in the universe.

In the Vedic teachings “Soma” relates to the mind which is often identified with the moon and has its seat in the head. The mind functions best when it is cool and calm like the light of the moon. Also like the moon the mind has a reflective nature that is developed over time through the practice of Yoga, Pranayama, Mantras and Meditation.

In Vedic knowledge Agni is the primary principle that is seated and begins in the digestive system in Ayurveda. It extends to the fire of Prana and to the power of Dhyåna (meditation) which are also the basis of higher Yoga practices. The Cosmic power of light is also Agni, perception and transformation which extends to the light of of consciousness itself. Agni is the light of all existence within the entire universe existing as the cosmic fire. In both Yoga and Ayurveda Agni relates to light, heat, purification and detoxification. All of these are necessary for the purification of mind and body. Every form of Agni has a corresponding form of ‘Soma” without which it cannot function properly. “Agni” is the Sun and “Soma” is the moon
